The 2012 Annual Report of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) has shown that accredited continuing medical education (CME) providers are successfully achieving the ACCME’s expectations.

To offer a long-range view of the accreditation system this year the ACCME Annual report includes an expanded year-by-year data analysis, showing trends in CME revenue and expenses, and the numbers of educational activities, hours of instruction, and participants from 2005 through to 2012.

The Report suggests that an increasing number of physicians are participating in continuing medical education (CME) and reveals a robust system with 2,000 accredited CME providers that offered more than 130,000 educational activities. These CME activities educated more than 24 million learners, including physicians and other health professionals.

It is hoped that this expanded analysis will provide CME providers and stakeholder with more information about the accreditation system.

The Annual Report also marks the 15th year in which the ACCME has been collecting, analyzing, and publishing information about accredited CME providers, and offers more than a decade-long perspective on the evolution of the ACCME accreditation system.

ACCME annual reports are produced as a service to accredited CME providers and other stakeholders.
