Grace Huang, MD, Named Editor-in-Chief of MedEdPORTAL

Following a nationwide search, Grace Huang, MD, has been named editor-in-chief of MedEdPORTAL, a free, open-access publication covering health professions education. Huang is currently an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS), a hospitalist and associate program director of the internal medicine residency program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), director of the Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education, co-director of the BIDMC Academy of Medical Educators, and director of assessment at the Shapiro Institute for Education and Research. Her term begins Jan. 1, 2017.

As editor-in-chief, Huang will provide leadership and strategic vision for MedEdPORTAL and will be responsible for maintaining its standard of excellence and continuing to build its international reputation as the most utilized, cited, and influential publication of health education resources. In this role, she will actively solicit new content from across the health education community and will work collaboratively with the MedEdPORTAL Editorial Board.

Huang has held several roles in faculty development, including as director of the Rabkin Fellowship, a nationally recognized program—in its 19th year—that provides intensive training to HMS faculty in cultivating skills as effective teachers, educators, leaders, and scholars. As director of assessment at the Shapiro Institute and co-director of the BIDMC Academy of Medical Educators, she teaches educational measurement, evaluation, and scholarly writing, while collaborating with and mentoring faculty and trainees across HMS. As an associate program director of the internal medicine residency program at BIDMC, Huang oversees the clinical competency meetings and resident assessment and program evaluation for the internal medicine residency. She has published widely in medical education literature on topics such as procedural training, cognitive error, simulation, and high value care.

Huang has received many national awards for peer review, and currently serves as an associate editor and editorial board member of MedEdPORTAL, as an associate editor for NEJM Journal Watch, on the editorial board of the international simulation journal, and as an ad-hoc reviewer for other journals.
